David Wesley St. Clair Reid, a B.C. teacher, had his teaching certificate suspended for seven days after he physically removed a student with specialized learning needs from his classroom in February 2021. The student had \”well-documented designations and an individual education plan\” that Reid was not familiar with, and when the student became agitated, Reid embarrassed them and physically and angrily moved them out of the classroom. The school district issued a letter and suspended Reid for five days without pay, and the BC Commissioner for Teacher Regulation added to the reprimand and suspended Reid\’s teaching certificate for seven days. This incident is a reminder of the importance of teachers familiarizing themselves with students\’ individualized education plans and safety plans.
