The CSA is finally addressing smart home data privacy

The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) has announced the formation of a new Data Privacy Working Group to develop a global “Alliance Data Privacy Specification” to certify the data privacy of smart devices and the services they use. This will provide information about how that data is used in a clear, digestible manner, without requiring users to wade through thousands of words in privacy policies. The CSA aims to support customers in better understanding what data is being collected, how it is used, and if it complies with existing privacy requirements. The Data Privacy Working Group will create a framework to detail how companies use data, and how they tell users about it. This is in response to the lack of data privacy legislation in the US, and the growing amount of data generated by connected devices in our homes.
