Climate \’spiral\’ threatens land carbon stores

This landmark study has found that the world\’s forests are losing their ability to absorb carbon due to increasingly \’unstable\’ conditions caused by humans. Rising temperatures, deforestation, and farming are making it harder for ecosystems to acclimate to climate change and reducing the overall storage capacity of land to absorb carbon. Areas most at risk include the Mediterranean Basin, Southeast Asia, and the west coasts of North and Central America. While some regions have seen increased carbon absorption capacity, these global variations could make it harder to predict the global impact of schemes to absorb carbon.
