State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that the country’s current account deficit has decreased by 90 percent compared to the same month last year due to the government’s fiscal measures to tackle external payments. Pakistan’s current account deficit in January was recorded at 0.24 billion dollars, which was 2.47 billion dollars in the same month last year, showing a decrease of 90.3 percent. According to the State Bank figures, on a month-on-month basis, the current account deficit declined to 0.29 billion dollars in December 2022, which is a decrease of 17 percent. The central bank further said that the overall current account deficit for the period July-January of the financial year 2023 was 3.80 billion dollars, which was 11.56 billion dollars in the same period of the financial year 2022.
