Sci-fi magazine bans hundreds of AI chatbot authors

The use of AI tools like ChatGPT to generate text has raised concerns of plagiarism and cheating in exams. Neil Clarke, editor of the Clarksworld sci-fi and fantasy magazine, recently announced that he had banned more than 500 authors in February alone over “machine-generated submissions”. The rise of influencers selling the idea of profitable “side hustles” using ChatGPT has made the problem even more widespread. Clarke admitted that his magazine does not yet have a solution to the problem, but warned that a checkbox on a form won’t stop people from submitting AI-generated stories.
