Mercedes-Benz has agreed to a \”multibillion-dollar\” deal with Luminar to integrate lidar technology and software into their next-generation of vehicles. This expanded partnership will include data-sharing components and multiple vehicle models. The lidar will allow the automaker\’s automated driving system, Drive Pilot, to operate at higher speeds. Currently, Drive Pilot is only available in Germany, but will be available in certain U.S. markets later this year. Mercedes has applied for certification in California and Nevada, and Luminar plans to build a factory in Asia to support the deal.
