  • Rupee back to winning ways, settles at 261.9 against US dollar

    The Pakistani rupee was back to winning ways against the US dollar, as the currency settled with a gain of 0.23% in the inter-bank market on Wednesday.

    As per the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the currency closed at 261.90 against the US dollar, an increase of Re0.61. Despite the gain, the currency has depreciated 21.4% during the ongoing fiscal year against the greenback.

    The Pakistani rupee’s five-session positive run came to an end against the US dollar on Tuesday after it settled at 262.51 with depreciation of Re0.63 or 0.24%.

    In a key development, Pakistan expects to conclude talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over a staff-level agreement as soon as this week, the country’s finance secretary said, in a crucial step towards unlocking funds to battle an economic crisis.

    “The consultations with the IMF are in the final stages. We expect to conclude the consultations soon, even within the week,” Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh, the top official in the finance ministry, told Reuters.

    Globally, the dollar and sterling were buoyant on Wednesday, after a surprise rebound in business activity in the United States and the UK raised the likelihood that their respective central banks would have further to go in raising interest rates.

    The rebound in US business activity comes on the back of a recent slew of resilient economic data pointing to a still-tight labour market, sticky inflation and robust retail sales in the world’s largest economy.

    The US dollar index stood at 104.13, having gained 0.3% on Tuesday.

    Oil prices, a key indicator of currency parity, fell for a third trading session on Wednesday on expectations the US Federal Reserve will indicate later in the day that interest rates are set to rise more, stoking concerns of lower global economic growth and demand for fuel.

  • Rupee registers decline, settles at 262.51 against US dollar

    پاکستانی روپے کی پانچ سیشن کی قدر میں اضافے کا سلسلہ اختتام پذیر ہوا، کیونکہ منگل کو انٹر بینک مارکیٹ میں امریکی ڈالر کے مقابلے میں کرنسی 0.24 فیصد کی معمولی کمی کے ساتھ طے ہوئی۔

    اسٹیٹ بینک آف پاکستان (SBP) کے مطابق، امریکی ڈالر کے مقابلے میں کرنسی 0.63 روپے کی کمی کے ساتھ 262.51 پر بند ہوئی۔ گرین بیک کے مقابلے میں جاری مالی سال کے دوران کرنسی کی قدر میں 21.6 فیصد کمی ہوئی ہے۔

    دی امریکی ڈالر کے مقابلے پاکستانی روپے کی قدر میں اضافے کا سلسلہ جاری ہے۔ پیر کو، 0.94 یا 0.36٪ کی تعریف سے 261.88 پر طے ہوا۔

    ایک اہم پیش رفت میں، پیر کو قومی اسمبلی نے بل منظور کر لیا۔ فنانس (ضمنی) بل، 2023، بین الاقوامی مالیاتی فنڈ (آئی ایم ایف) کے ساتھ اس کی توسیعی فنڈ سہولت کے لیے طے پانے والے مفاہمت کو پورا کرنے کے لیے 170 ارب روپے کے اضافی ٹیکس اور ڈیوٹیز کی تجویز۔

    اپنی اختتامی تقریر میں، وزیر خزانہ اسحاق ڈار نے کہا کہ ان کی اقتصادی ٹیم نے پروگرام کو بحال کرنے کے لیے آئی ایم ایف سے بات چیت کی، جس کے دوران اس نے معیشت کی بگڑتی ہوئی حالت کو ہموار کرنے کے لیے کچھ سخت فیصلے لینے پر اتفاق کیا۔

    بین الاقوامی سطح پر، امریکی ڈالر منگل کو حالیہ چوٹیوں سے نیچے کھڑا تھا، کیونکہ تین ہفتے کی ریلی ختم ہوگئی اور تاجروں نے معاشی اعداد و شمار کا انتظار کیا تاکہ یہ معلوم کیا جا سکے کہ آیا ڈالر کو مزید اوپر دھکیلنا ضروری ہے۔

    مضبوط امریکی لیبر ڈیٹا اور چپچپا افراط زر نے امریکی شرح کی توقعات میں اضافہ کیا ہے اور اس مہینے میں اب تک ڈالر کی ریلی کی حمایت کی ہے – منگل کے یورپی اور امریکی مینوفیکچرنگ ڈیٹا اور جمعہ کا بنیادی PCE قیمت انڈیکس اگلے اقدامات کی رہنمائی کرے گا۔

    دی امریکی ڈالر انڈیکس فروری سے اب تک تقریباً 1.7% کے اضافے کے لیے لگاتار تین ہفتے چڑھ چکا ہے، لیکن جمعہ کو 104.67 ہٹ کے چھ ہفتے کی بلند ترین سطح سے نیچے، 103.86 پر مستحکم ہے۔

    دی برینٹ کروڈ منگل کو بینچ مارک گر گیا کیونکہ اس خدشے کے باعث کہ عالمی اقتصادی سست روی سے ایندھن کی طلب میں کمی آئے گی جس نے سرمایہ کاروں کو گزشتہ روز کے منافع پر منافع لینے پر آمادہ کیا۔
