A dozen sailboats in Okanagan Lake in Kelowna are submerged or partially submerged because of severe, cold weather. The area in Manhattan Point like clockwork experiences these catastrophes every winter storm. According to a resident Mike Bernhardt, he counted three or four submerged sailboats during a calm day. Moreover, six to eight sailboats are struggling to stay afloat. This issue is a concern, particularly because the sunken boats could be leaking fuel and causing environmental damage. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change said people may be authorized to remove sunken boats from navigable waters under the Navigation Protection Act. Every year occurs a similar situation in the Manhattan Point area. It seems to get worse as more boats are affected each year. The recent cold snapp seems to have impacted the boats to the worse extent.
