The Attorney General for Pakistan told the Supreme Court that the government is thinking about appealing a judgment in the Sherbano case. The case is about what happens when a judge retires or resigns. The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) heard complaints against a former judge. Khawaja Haris, a lawyer, requested to hear the case. There was a judgment in the Afia Sherbano case in June 2023, and the complaint was against a former CJP Saqib Nisar. The Attorney General also mentioned a Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act, and said that a petition before the Supreme Court must go to a Committee first, then a five-judge bench if constitutional interpretation is needed. The petition in the Sherbano case was dismissed. The government is considering appealing this decision, and the lawyer Khawaja Haris is on his way to Islamabad to hear the case.
