The Islamabad High Court withdrew its stay order on the in-camera trial of former premier Imran Khan after the state counsel assured that witnesses’ statements would be recorded again. The case relates to a diplomatic document that was allegedly never returned by Imran. The court restrained the special court from proceeding against suspects till January 11 due to legal errors. Imran had challenged the trial and subsequent developments, including the framing of charges and a media gag order. The special court began the trial afresh last month at the Adiala district jail. The Supreme Court had approved the post-arrest bails of Imran and Qureshi. During the hearing, it was mentioned that the trial court was ready to re-record the statements of 13 witnesses and that the FIA had 25 witnesses in total, with 12 testimonies yet to be recorded. The court reserved its verdict on Imran’s pleas and allowed the proceedings since December 14 to begin afresh. Imran’s lawyer also stated he would file a petition against the trial judge.
