Google has laid off “a few hundred” employees from its Google Hardware, Assistant, and core engineering teams. This adds up to around 1000 job cuts in total. These layoffs are part of an effort to make the company more efficient, according to Google spokesperson Courtenay Mencini. It’s possible that there are more job cuts that haven’t been disclosed yet, and Google may be spreading out the news to minimize the impact. Some sources have reported on the layoffs, but Google has not confirmed whether they are the complete number of cuts. It’s also interesting to note that Google has been accused of attempting to shape the news by planting stories. However, compared to the total number of employees, these layoffs represent only around half a percent of Google’s workforce.
