Pakistani exporters are making more money by selling onions to other countries because India has banned onion exports. This has caused the price of onions in Pakistan to go up to Rs240 per kg. The prices went up because exporters are buying a lot of onions to sell to other countries, making it harder for local shoppers to afford onions. The prices in India are now going down, so Pakistani exporters want to sell as many onions as possible before India starts selling again. Because of the high onion prices, people are also struggling to afford other vegetables and pay their bills. The president of a wholesale vegetable market said that the prices are high because of the demand from other countries and that the end of the Balochistan onion crop is also keeping prices high. The export of all vegetables from Pakistan has also increased.
