A train derailed in North Delta in November which has raised pollution concerns. There was a lot of contamination that appeared to be diesel and bunker fuel spilled into the ditches. The crash site is being monitored and the leaked fuel has started to appear on the other side of Highway 91. The use of booms, sandbags, and absorbent pads is being undertaken to contain the contaminants. The B.C.’s Environment Ministry sent an emergency response team to the site and confirmed around 8,000 liters of fuel spilled into the railway ditch and is continuously monitoring the site cleanup.
