The Canadian government acknowledges that there aren’t many affordable options for mobile service in Canada. They suggested customers look for cheaper options if they face price increases from their providers. Rogers Communications and Bell have both increased their prices. A competition expert argues that it should not be the consumer’s responsibility to hunt around for the best prices. Quebecor, owner of Freedom Mobile, has frozen prices. Rogers and Bell did not comment. The Canadian Telecommunications Association says that the cost of investing in networks is high. Studies show that Canada has some of the most expensive phone and internet prices in the world. This problem also applies to cellphone and broadband services in 2022.
