The interim government of Punjab is taking action against dangerous cosmetics and unauthorized beauty procedures. The caretaker Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare, Dr. Jamal Nasir, announced that teams will crack down on harmful cosmetics and unqualified practitioners offering beauty injections and surgeries. The Punjab Healthcare Commission and the Drug Control Directorate will be forming these teams.
Dr. Nasir expressed concern about sub-standard fairness creams causing skin diseases and warned against cosmetics containing harmful chemicals. The Punjab Hepatitis Control Programme is also conducting screenings of beauty parlors to ensure they adhere to strict hygiene principles.
The government is currently examining beauty creams from 24 popular brands to ensure they do not contain harmful chemicals. The press conference was attended by health officials and the information was published in Dawn on January 6th, 2024. The goal is to ensure consumer safety and crack down on dangerous cosmetics and beauty practices in Punjab.
