The chairman of PPP Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has requested the Supreme Court to allow live streaming of the proceedings on a reference seeking to review the death sentence given to former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. A larger bench of the Supreme Court will be taking up the reference on December 12. The reference was filed by former president Asif Zardari, seeking an opinion on revisiting the death sentence. Bilawal’s lawyer filed a petition for a live broadcast of the hearing so the entire country can hear it. Bilawal also expressed his hopes for justice at a PPP worker’s convention in Kohat, and he presided over a meeting to review the presidential reference. The reference was initially made in April 2011, and its last hearing was in January 2012. The Lahore High Court had awarded the death sentence in 1978, which was later upheld by a seven-judge Supreme Court bench in 1979. Bilawal hopes to right the wrong done to his grandfather and provide justice for his family and the nation.
