The Election Commission of Pakistan issued a notice to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in response to challenges to their intra-party polls. Akbar S. Babar is challenging the conduct of the intra-party elections. He appeared before the commission and stated there was no voter list or proper procedure followed for the polls. He also claimed that the party constitution does not mention an election program. Another PTI member, Raja Tahir Nawaz, filed a petition, stating that the elections were not held according to the Constitution. The legitimacy of the elections has been questioned by leaders of other parties as well. The ECP annulled PTI’s previous intra-party polls and asked for new elections to be held within 20 days. The new election resulted in Barrister Gohar Khan replacing Imran Khan as PTI chairman. Imran Khan did not contest in the polls and is currently in jail. Gohar Ali Khan retained the party’s jailed Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi at his current post.
