The interim Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said that former Prime Minister Imran Khan should not face any legal obstacles to contest the upcoming general elections in 2024. He said there is no legal restriction keeping Imran Khan or his party, PTI, from participating in the election process. However, he also mentioned that this could change if something unforeseen occurs. The Election Commission of Pakistan had previously disqualified Imran Khan for five years in relation to the Toshakhana case. He is currently in prison and facing trial in the cipher case. The ECP also announced that it will hold proceedings against Imran Khan and another individual for contempt of the commission. This case will be held at the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. The elections are scheduled to be held on February 2, 2024.
