Asad Shafiq, a former Pakistan international, has been appointed as a consultant member of the Wahab Riaz-led national selection committee. He is still waiting for clarity about his new role. Asad replaced former captain Salman Butt on the committee after Butt’s inclusion drew backlash due to his involvement in a spot-fixing scandal. Asad expressed that he has not been clearly communicated the nature of his role and is waiting for the contract to make a decision. Asad has been out of the Pakistan Test team since 2020 but has been performing well in domestic cricket. He is currently leading Karachi Whites in the National T20 Cup but has expressed concern about the tight schedule of matches, which is affecting players’ recovery time. Asad also mentioned that the scheduling of the 18-team tournament and the lack of time for practice have been challenging for the players.
