Ottawa and Google reached a deal regarding payments to Canadian media companies as a result of an ongoing dispute over the Online News Act. Google will pay Canadian news publishers $100 million a year and Ottawa has set a $100-million yearly cap as the law compels tech giants to make payments to news publishers for news content on their sites. Many small businesses lost over $38 billion in revenue due to labour shortages in 2022. In a bank survey, more than 80% of respondents are against the Bank of Canada creating a digital dollar. The government is expected to announce on Thursday that it has selected Boeing Co. to replace the military’s aging patrol planes in a multibillion-dollar deal.
