Thousands of delegates from about 200 countries are in Dubai for COP28, a big conference to tackle climate change. It is from November 30 to December 12. The main focus is on reducing fossil fuels and carbon emissions. This is happening as the world suffers from floods, heatwaves, and wildfires.

COP stands for Conference of the Parties. It’s where UN member states meet to talk about climate change. The first COP was in 1995. The President-Designate of COP28 is Dr Sultan Al Jaber. Over 70,000 attendees are expected, including heads of state and celebrities.

Dr Sultan Al Jaber wants to keep the world’s average temperature from going up by more than 1.5 degrees C. Delegates hope to make progress on a climate disaster fund and discuss the future of fossil fuels at COP28. This year will also see COP’s first ever ‘Trade Day’ for exploring how trade policy can drive climate goals.
