Nawaz Sharif, the leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), appeared in front of the Islamabad High Court for a case related to Avenfield and Al-Azizia references. The court will listen to his appeals regarding his conviction in these cases. His lawyers argued that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) failed to provide any evidence. In 2018, Sharif was sentenced to 10 and seven years in prison in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references, respectively. However, he was declared a proclaimed offender by the IHC for not complying with the court’s orders after he went to London for medical treatment with the court’s permission in November 2019. After returning to Pakistan, Sharif filed appeals to revive his pleas against his convictions. The court had dismissed his appeals in June 2021 due to his prolonged stay in London. His lawyers argue that he never took advantage of the bail granted to him in all the cases. Now, the IHC will hear his appeals. Source Source
