A fire at a commercial building in Karachi killed 11 people, with 5 others injured. The police have registered a first information report (FIR), but no arrests have been made yet. The fire was suspected to have started due to a short circuit and engulfed the building because there was no ventilation. The building also did not have an emergency exit or fire alarm system. The FIR mentioned a detailed probe into the building’s construction approval and the negligence of organizations. The police are waiting for experts to confirm the exact cause of the fire before taking further legal action. The caretaker Sindh Chief Minister ordered a safety audit of all public and commercial buildings in response to the incident. The Sindh Building Control Authority, Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Civil Defence, and deputy commissioners/assistant commissioners were directed to carry out audits and submit recommendations. The Mayor Karachi also mentioned that the building was located within the jurisdiction of Cantonment Board.
