The Afghan consulate in Peshawar has refused to accept deportations of undocumented Afghans without verifying their status. This is due to Pakistani nationals being sent to Afghanistan as “Afghan deportees” and the detention of documented Afghan migrants. Pakistani officials claim that Afghan authorities have never informed them about this condition. They also rejected the claim of Pakistanis being repatriated to Afghanistan as “baseless” and stated that the verification process will further delay the deportation of illegal migrants. Meanwhile, 119 illegal migrants were deported from Punjab to Afghanistan via the Torkham border crossing. Over 238,519 illegal migrants, including men, women, and children, had left for Afghanistan since September 17. The voluntary repatriation of Afghan nationals is still continuing without any hurdle. This information was published in Dawn on November 25th, 2023.
