South African fintech company Ozow is maintaining a data dashboard for Black Friday which shows transaction statistics for payments made through the gateway, including the three customers who spent the most money. The largest single transaction for the day so far was R140 000. The number of online transactions made is increasing rapidly every hour, according to Ozow data. Customers are paying an average of just under R700 per transaction. Black Friday is the name given to the Friday after the US’ Thanksgiving holiday when businesses offer huge discounts on merchandise. South Africans are expected to spend more on essentials this Black Friday than on cheap tech, according to research by the Bureau of Market Research.
