Until the early 2000s, Ireland was a tough place for film-makers. However, a new generation of directors and writers emerged, influenced less by Irish theater and more by Hollywood films and European cinema traditions. Some notable Irish films include Wolfwalkers, Belfast, Intermission, and Maeve. The list encompasses properly Irish films created and realized by Irish talent. Some films that were debated for inclusion were ones that were shot here or had Irish connections like Barry Lyndon.
