North Korea’s foreign ministry criticized US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s comments about North Korea’s relations with Russia, saying the remarks would only increase tension on the peninsula. Blinken met with South Korean officials and warned about the military ties between Pyongyang and Moscow. Pyongyang condemned Blinken’s comments as “irresponsible and provocative”, stating that they would escalate tension in the region. North Korea also emphasized its friendly and cooperative relations with Russia, despite international sanctions on both countries. The growing military cooperation between Russia and North Korea has raised concerns, especially following a summit between Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin. It is also reported that Pyongyang sent artillery rounds to bolster Russia’s war in Ukraine in exchange for advice on satellite technology. US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin is scheduled to meet his South Korean counterpart as the US and South Korea increase their defense cooperation.
