Polling for local government by-elections is taking place in 14 districts across Sindh province in Pakistan. The polling process started at 8am and will continue until 5pm in various cities including Karachi and Sukkur. The Election Commission of Pakistan has appointed district returning officers and returning officers for 21 seats. There are 163 polling stations set up across Sindh, with 72 considered highly sensitive and 89 labeled sensitive. In Karachi alone, there are 121 polling stations, 42 of which are highly sensitive. The Provincial Election Commissioner has instructed authorities to ensure a fair and transparent election. Murtaza Wahab, the Mayor of Karachi, and his deputy Salman Murad are participating in the by-elections for the Pakistan Peoples Party. They are contesting in nine union committees (UCs) for UC chairmen and vice chairmen, as well as general members. The mayor is running against six other candidates in his home UC, while the deputy mayor is running in his native UC. Various political parties have candidates competing for different seats in the by-elections. Security measures have been put in place by the Sindh police to prevent any untoward incidents during the polls, including the deployment of thousands of policemen and a quick response force.
