More than 100,000 Afghan nationals have voluntarily returned to Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing in the last two weeks, according to a Pakistani government official. These individuals had traveled from various parts of Pakistan to the border crossing. Pakistan had set a deadline for all undocumented immigrants, including Afghan nationals, to leave the country by November 1. There are currently 1.73 million unregistered and illegal Afghan residents in Pakistan. Pakistan stated that its decision to expel illegal immigrants is in accordance with its domestic laws and international norms. The country emphasized its commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and highlighted its history of hosting millions of Afghan refugees over the past 40 years.
