Dubai recently hosted two major technology and startup events, GITEX Global and Expand North Star. GITEX Global featured over 3,500 AI enterprises and startups, attracting hundreds of thousands of attendees. The event focused on the theme of AI being integrated into everything. Meanwhile, Expand North Star, held at Dubai Harbour, was the world’s largest startup event, with over 1,800 exhibitors from 100 countries and over 900 investors managing assets exceeding $1 trillion. The events also included 10 co-located shows covering various topics.
H.E. Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, emphasized the significance of AI and the UAE’s leadership in AI adoption. He highlighted that AI can solve most challenges and that responsible governance is crucial.
Pakistan had a presence at both events, with 40 startups participating. Many of these startups sought fundraising due to a lack of deals in the startup space in the past 15 months. In contrast, Indian startups dominated the event, and big investors from India were in attendance.
The Pakistan Pavilion at both events showcased the country’s offerings, but there was a lack of representation and professionalism. This was a concern, especially considering Pakistan’s goal of tripling its IT exports in the next five years.
Overall, the events highlighted the importance of AI and showcased innovative startups. The hope is for better representation and professionalism in future events.
