Five hospitals in southwestern Ontario are currently dealing with a cyberattack that has caused delays and disruptions to patient care. Some patients and their families have reported waiting for hours and having procedures cancelled as a result. The hospitals affected include Windsor Regional Hospital, Erie Shores HealthCare, Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, Bluewater Health, and the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. Services such as patient records and email have been down since Monday morning. The hospitals are working to reschedule or make alternative arrangements for affected patients. Staff are using paper records while the attack is being investigated. The company responsible for the affected systems, TransForm, has confirmed the cyberattack and is working from a backup system. It is currently unknown whether any patient information was affected. The hospitals have not provided any details about the attack or which police agency is investigating. The privacy commissioner’s office has not yet been notified of the cyberattack. Cyberattacks are a growing threat to personal information and can have devastating impacts in the healthcare system.
