The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has reportedly gained the support of Ali Gohar Mahar, a lawmaker from the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), in the upcoming general elections. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, a prominent PPP leader, played a role in bringing back Mahar to the party. Mahar confirmed this development during a meeting with PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari. Another meeting is scheduled to take place in Karachi, and Zardari will also visit Mahar’s house in Ghotki. Ghous Bux Mahar, another GDA leader, has also joined the PPP. However, the GDA has not commented on Mahar’s decision until he confirms it himself. Nasir Shah believes that Mahar’s return to the PPP will have a significant impact on the elections in Ghotki and other areas. There have been differences within the Mahar family, with Ali Gohar previously opposing his cousin Sardar Mohammad Bux Mahar. The GDA and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl alliance claim to be a strong anti-PPP force in Sindh, but Nasir Shah and Dr Safdar Abbasi remain confident that the PPP will surprise them in the upcoming elections. The GDA comprises five parties, and they plan to make their presence felt once the election date is announced.
