A company called X Corp. is being sued by another company called X Social Media LLC. X Social Media claims that X Corp. violated Florida common law by engaging in unfair competition and trademark infringement. X Corp. recently changed their name on Twitter, which is the reason for the lawsuit. X Social Media has been using the trademark “X SOCIALMEDIA” since 2016 and believes that X Corp.’s rebranding has caused them financial losses. It is uncertain how strong X Social Media’s case is, as there are many other companies with trademarks that include the letter “X.” A law professor has commented that it may be difficult for any company with an “X” trademark to win a case against another company with a similar trademark, including X Corp. or X Social Media.
