Pakistan suffered defeat at the hands of India in both squash and hockey matches at the Asian Games. In hockey, India beat Pakistan by a record-breaking score of 10-2, with Harmanpreet Singh scoring four goals. Pakistan managed to score two goals but were unable to make a comeback. Despite the losses, Pakistan won a silver medal in squash and a bronze medal in shooting. Kashmala Talat narrowly missed out on winning another bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed teams event. In athletics, Gohar Shahbaz and Mohammad Afzal had disappointing performances in the 100m and long jump events, respectively. Ghazala Ramzan finished last in her heat of the women’s 100m hurdles. In boxing, Mohammad Qasim lost in the last-16 bout to China’s Ping Lyu. Pakistan now needs to win against Japan to qualify for the semi-finals in hockey. Overall, it was a disappointing day for Pakistan’s athletes at the Asian Games.
