The S&P/TSX composite index had a positive day, closing at 19,590.74, which was 0.8% higher than the previous session. Most sectors of the index ended in positive territory, with information technology and consumer staples leading the way. The materials sector and financial services also saw gains. However, the energy sector closed down 0.2%. In terms of top performers on September 28, Lithium Americas Corp. saw a 5.23% increase and announced a split into two separate entities. Celestica Inc., a Toronto-based maker of electronic components, saw a 4.71% increase and has benefited from investor interest in AI companies. Teck Resources Ltd., a Vancouver-based miner, also saw a 4.54% increase and has been dealing with a bid from Glencore PLC.
