The Islamabad High Court has scheduled a hearing for PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s post-arrest bail plea in the cipher case, in which he is currently imprisoned. The court will take up the petition on September 25. Imran Khan was arrested on August 5 in the Toshakhana case, and while his detention was suspended on August 29, he remains incarcerated in the cipher case. The cipher case relates to a missing diplomatic document that reportedly contained a threat from the United States to remove Imran from power. Imran had approached the IHC after his plea was rejected by the special court. The petition argues that the Secrets Act does not apply to the cipher case and alleges mala fide intentions and political victimization. The cipher case also involves former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and the involvement of other individuals is yet to be determined. The FIR accuses Imran and Qureshi of illegal communication/use of official secret information and illegal retention of a cipher telegram. The accused allegedly held a clandestine meeting to conspire in misusing the contents of the cipher for personal gain. The accused are also accused of keeping the cipher telegram in their possession illegally.
