Despite their matches being rained out in Hangzhou, both the women’s cricket teams of India and Pakistan have reached the semi-finals of the Asian Games. India batted first against Malaysia and scored 173-2 in their 15 overs. However, Malaysia only faced two balls and were 1-0 in reply when the rain returned, resulting in the match being abandoned. Because of their higher world ranking, India progressed to the semi-finals. Pakistan also went through to the semi-finals without playing due to rain, as their match against Indonesia was abandoned without a ball being bowled. In the semi-finals, India will face the winner of the quarter-final between Bangladesh and Hong Kong, while Pakistan will play either Sri Lanka or Thailand. Jemimah Jessica Rodrigues and Shafali Verma scored impressively for India before the washout. Malaysia’s coach expressed disappointment that their batters did not get the chance to play against India’s bowling attack. Previously, Pakistan had won gold in women’s cricket at the Asian Games in Guangzhou 2010 and Incheon 2014. The sport was not played at the Jakarta Asiad in 2018.
