Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming Slack, according to its CEO Lidiane Jones. After taking over as CEO in January, Jones has worked to bring stability to the platform. Slack, a workplace messaging platform, has launched more features in the past nine months than in the previous several years. Many believe that tools like Slack will be profoundly transformed by generative AI, which can produce texts, images, and sounds on request. Slack has rushed out new versions powered by AI to act as online assistants. Users can use AI tools to summarize content and automate administrative tasks. Unlike Microsoft’s Teams, users can also speak directly to generative AI chatbots within Slack. Slack’s strength lies in its availability of third-party apps and tools. Although Microsoft’s Teams has more users, Slack believes its AI capabilities are powerful due to the quality of its data. Slack does not plan to develop its own language model, but may develop personalized AI agents in the future. However, it will take time for people to trust and feel comfortable with this technology.
