The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has presented Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), before an anti-corruption court in Lahore. ACE has sought his physical remand in connection with a graft case. Elahi’s lawyer, Rana Intezar Hussain, has stated that they are opposing the request for his physical remand. Elahi is among several PTI leaders and workers who have been arrested following the violent riots in the country. This latest arrest marks the 12th time that Elahi has been taken into custody. The case against him pertains to the Lahore Master Plan 2050, in which he is charged under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947. The FIR alleges that Elahi misused his authority and colluded with another individual to illegally alter the draft of the Lahore Master Plan 2050, resulting in an increase in the value of his sons’ land. Elahi was granted a one-day transit remand to be produced in the relevant anti-corruption court in Lahore. This arrest follows a series of arrests and cases against Elahi, including allegations of kickbacks and embezzlement in development projects.
