The President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, has been discharged from an anti-corruption court in Lahore. The court dismissed the request for his physical remand made by the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment. However, it is uncertain whether Elahi will be released following the ruling, as he has previously been re-arrested after being granted bail or discharged. Elahi was among several PTI leaders arrested in the aftermath of violent riots that occurred when party leader Imran Khan was initially arrested on May 9. The case against Elahi involves allegations of misuse of authority and collusion to alter the draft of the Lahore Master Plan 2050. The plan allegedly benefited Elahi’s sons by increasing the value of their land in Kotli Rai Abu Bakar. Elahi has faced multiple arrests and charges since June 1, including corruption, illegal recruitments, money laundering, attacking a police team, and involvement in embezzlement. Despite being granted bail in some cases, he has been repeatedly re-arrested by various agencies. The release of Elahi following the recent court ruling is dependent on the issuance of the written court order.
