SK hynix, a South Korean chipmaker, has stated that it has not been doing business with Huawei since the US imposed chip sanctions against China in 2020. Last week, it was reported that SK hynix’s memory chips were found in Huawei’s latest smartphone, prompting the chipmaker to launch an internal investigation. SK hynix vice chairman Park Jung-ho confirmed that they have had no business dealings with Huawei and stated that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the presence of their chips in the smartphone. The company also emphasized that it is complying with the US government’s export restrictions. SK hynix stopped supplying chips to Huawei in 2020 when the US banned the supply of semiconductors made with US equipment to the Chinese company due to security concerns. At that time, Huawei accounted for about 10% of SK hynix’s sales.
