Apple will release a software update for iPhone 12 users in France following concerns that the devices were breaching radiation exposure limits set by regulators. The French regulatory authority had ordered a ban on the sale of iPhone 12 models after tests revealed that the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR), which measures radio frequency absorption into the body, exceeded European limits. Other countries, including Belgium, Germany, and Italy, have expressed plans to review the French findings. Apple has denied the claims, stating that it is related to the testing protocol used by French regulators and not a safety concern with the iPhone 12 itself. France’s digital affairs minister confirmed that testing of the software update will be conducted swiftly. These concerns about radiation levels and the sales ban coincided with Apple’s announcement of the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models, set to be launched on September 22nd.
