The Smart Tire Company from Akron, Ohio is selling these tires, and they promise that they will be durable and long-lasting.
However, there are some risks involved in buying these tires. They are being sold through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, which means that there is a higher risk compared to buying from an established company. The tires are also quite expensive, with a pair costing $500. If you want additional features like aluminum or carbon rims, the price can go up to $1,300 or $2,300 respectively.
The tires have an all-weather tread that provides grip and medium low rolling resistance. The tread can last up to 8,000 miles and can be retreaded for $10 per tire. The tires are lightweight and offer a smooth ride with superior handling and increased traction compared to regular air-filled tires.
The estimated delivery of the tires is in June 2024, and the Kickstarter campaign has already exceeded its goal with 128 backers. If the campaign earns enough, there are plans to make wider tires for eBikes and mountain bikes, as well as different sizes and tread patterns for road and gravel bikes.
