Former Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi has been sent to Adiala jail for 14 days by an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad. The court rejected the prosecution’s request for a 10-day physical remand of Elahi, who is the president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Elahi and other PTI leaders are being booked for allegedly attacking policemen outside the Federal Judicial Complex in Islamabad earlier this year. This incident occurred when PTI chairman Imran Khan was attending a hearing. Elahi has been arrested multiple times in various cases since June, as part of a crackdown on the PTI. In September, he was rearrested just hours after being released by the Islamabad High Court. His son, Moonis Elahi, called the arrest an “abduction” and against the court’s orders. Elahi was previously arrested in June on allegations of taking bribes and was detained under the Maintenance of Public Order for 30 days in July.
