The judge in charge of the cipher case against Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi has taken a leave of absence until September 8. Imran Khan’s lawyer, Naeem Haider Panjutha, stated in a video that when the legal team arrived at the court, they discovered the judge was on leave for a week. They tried to request another judge, but Administrative Judge Raja Jawad Abbas refused, saying he was not authorized to preside over the case. As a result, they plan to approach the Islamabad High Court to determine who can handle the case in the absence of Judge Zulqarnain. The cipher case involves the alleged misuse of diplomatic code contents, which Imran claimed was evidence of an attempt to overthrow his government while Qureshi was the foreign minister. Imran is currently in Attock Jail, while Qureshi is detained in Adiala Jail in connection with this case. The case was registered under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and the FIR stated that Imran, Qureshi, and their associates disclosed classified information in a manner detrimental to the country’s security.
