According to Pakistan’s military, a terrorist was killed by security forces in an exchange of fire in the South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The incident occurred in the Ladha area on the night of August 22/23. The military said that its troops effectively engaged the terrorists and recovered weapons and ammunition from the killed terrorist. The area is currently being sanitized to eliminate any other terrorists present. This operation comes as Pakistan is facing an increase in terror activities, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Another recent incident in South Waziristan resulted in the deaths of four terrorists and six soldiers. There have also been targeted attacks in North Waziristan, with two people killed recently. The police reported a total of 665 militant attacks, including 15 suicide bombings, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the past year. A think tank report released in July highlighted a significant rise in terror and suicide attacks, causing 389 deaths nationwide in the first half of this year. The military has conducted numerous intelligence operations, resulting in the killing or arrest of 1,172 terrorists.
