A Christian settlement in eastern Pakistan was attacked by a Muslim mob who vandalized churches and houses. The attack lasted for over 10 hours without police intervention. The mob accused two residents of desecrating the Holy Quran and demanded that they be handed over. The police denied the accusation and stated that they were trying to prevent a worse situation. The mob carried weapons such as iron rods, sticks, knives, and daggers. Paramilitary troops have now cordoned off the Christian colony and arrested over 100 people suspected of being involved in the rioting. The United States expressed deep concern about the targeting of churches and homes in the attack.
