The Islamabad High Court has allowed PTI leaders Shehryar Afridi and Shandana Gulzar to go home by suspending the MPO orders issued against them. The court has restricted them from leaving the capital and from making statements on mainstream and social media until the case is resolved. The court will also charge the city Deputy Commissioner and a senior superintendent of police for contempt of court. Additionally, the court has issued show cause notices to the SHO of Margalla Police Station, the DPO, City Zone, the SSP (Operations), the District Magistrate, and others for criminal contempt of court. They must respond within 24 hours as to why they should not be punished. In background, Afridi was arrested on May 30 and was being kept in a death cell despite the IHC’s ruling. Shandana was arrested on August 9 without explanation.
