Anwaarul Haq Kakar has been sworn in as the 8th interim prime minister of Pakistan. He took the oath of office at the presidency in Islamabad. Kakar was chosen as the interim premier after meetings between the outgoing prime minister and opposition leader. The outgoing PM expressed confidence that Kakar would ensure fair elections. Kakar also resigned from the Senate and the Balochistan Awami Party in order to be impartial. The Senate chairman accepted Kakar’s resignation. Kakar’s appointment comes less than a year before the completion of his six-year term in the Senate. He is from Qilla Saifullah and was one of the architects of the Balochistan Awami Party. Before becoming interim PM, he was a senator and served as the chief spokesperson of the party. Kakar has a background in politics and is fluent in multiple languages. He holds a Masters degree in Sociology and Political Science.
