The leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Raja Riaz, met with outgoing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the selection of a caretaker prime minister. Riaz described the meeting as positive and expressed confidence that they would agree on a candidate soon. After the meeting, Riaz told reporters that he had given Shehbaz Sharif the names of potential candidates for the caretaker prime minister and asked him to consider them. However, Riaz refused to disclose the names being discussed publicly, as they had agreed not to do so during the meeting. Riaz mentioned that there are six candidates being considered for the position. When asked why they couldn’t agree on a name during the meeting, Riaz stated that today was just the first day of consultation and they needed to consult further. The National Assembly has been dissolved, and the outgoing government has not yet named a caretaker prime minister. If there is no consensus, the matter will be referred to a parliamentary committee. If the committee also fails to make a decision, the Election Commission of Pakistan will have two days to choose from a list of names.
